Metadata and Digitisation Workflows
Libraries have been attaching metadata to library assets for many years and yet few libraries or museums embed metadata in their online digital assets. The University Digitisation Service has been investigating the feasibility of embedded metadata in digital assets that it creates as its range of digitisation services began to expand.
The other major challenge faced by this service has been to develop new workflows for new equipment and new services. Not surprisingly, one of the key elements for doing this efficiently is the availability of good quality metadata, and so the systems being developed to embed metadata are also being used to manage jobs and files.
